My children are beautiful!

Parents believe that if there child is cute, or talented that they should be a model or be in tv commercials. Children models can succeed in the industry and do very well. However, it really depends on what clients are looking for from day to day. An agency cannot really determine, who will work, and who won't . No agency should ever GUARANTEE work, as an agencies job is to submit the children to the appropriate castings, with hopes of getting the child an audition or perhaps a booking. A lot can depend on what the child looks like, behaviour, personality, sizes and of course great parents.

To submit children to the right clients, children must have great photos that represent the child to the best of their ability. Each agency in Toronto, has a specific style that they prefer. Most agencies work with photographers that they have built good relationships with over the years. The photographers know how the children should be photographed for the agencies clients that book the children.

It is not a get rich quick. It take months or even years of hard work and money to be successful. There are thousands of children, wanting to work in the industry.
It like anything else, is very competitve.

An agency must represent, all different, ages, sizes and shapes of children for their clients.

Posing for the Camera

So many photographers today, complain that models are not trained, and have no idea how to pose in front of the camera. Models must do there research and look at magazines to see what professionals models are doing. A good training tool is to tear out photos you like from magazines, and practice those poses.

A lot of photographers complain models do not have a spirit or there eyes are like there is nothing there " deer in the headlights" Models need to practice, take some workshops, do homework to be the best model possible.

Photographers are busy, with lights and setting up the shot. It is the models responsiblity to bring ideas to the set and be professional. A photographer will guide the model through a shoot slightly. A photographers job is adjusting lighting, cropping, composition, they have lots of things to think about when photographing the model.

However if a model is getting paid for the shoot, the model must be professional and know how to pose. No client will pay 150.00 an hour for an untrained , unprofessional model.

What should I watch for before signing with an agency

Be cautious if an agency tells you any of these things listed below.
- "We can guarantee you work" No agency can ever predict or guarantee placement, they might say you have a great look, or great personality and they will submit you on projects, however that does not mean you will get an audition or a booking, it is very competitive

"Babies require professional pictures or portfolios." Babies change and grow very fast, professional photos are not required , just a cute snapshot of your babies face is all that is required
